Hair by Where are you from? | 2020 Online Exhibition

Hair by Where are you from? (WAYF) is the first WAYF series to explore a topic intersecting with cultural identity — the European beauty standard and its impacts on people of colour.

The series features 26 stories written by BIPOC womxn living in Naarm (Melbourne), with portraits by photographer Shannon May Powell. And aims to build pride and identity for women with textured hair by celebrating all of its beautiful variations.

Each ‘gallery’ was originally exhibited on the Where are you from? Instagram feed (https://www.instagram.com/whereareyoufrom__/), accompanied by video works IG stories, starting June 29th until July 3rd.
